You can create shifts for your employee on the fly without the use of templates. This article shows you how you can create a new shift without existing templates.
Method 1
From the Menu Bar, select Scheduling.
- Select Manage Schedule from the dropdown menu. This takes you to the Manage Schedule page.
- Select Create drop-down menu and choose Shift.
The Assign Shift screen displays. - Enter the employee details on the Assign Shift form.
- Employee – Select the employee from the dropdown menu.
- Position – Select the employee’s position for the shift.
- Date – Mark the date from the calendar you want the employee to work on.
- Start and End Time – Select the Start and End time of the employee’s shift on the selected date. You can use the Choose a commonly used shift option to select a predefined shift from the dropdown menu.
- Repetition - Select the preferred repetition from the dropdown menu.

Break Details – Add the Type of break: Rest (paid) or Meal (can either be paid or unpaid) and its time.
Select the Add Break button to add multiple breaks for the employee. - Use the override switches to override certain restrictions around employee’s availability, minimum and maximum hours, etc for this shift, if needed.
- Switch on the Publish toggle to publish the new schedule for the particular employee.
- Select Save to continue editing the shift schedule. You can also use the Save & Close button to close the pop-up screen.
Editing the Shift
Saving the newly created shift enables two new tabs on the Assign Shift screen.

- Select the Tasks tab to view and assign tasks to the employee as part of his shift work.

Select Save Tasks.
- Go to the Notes tab to add any information on the tasks or the employee’s shift.

Select Save Note to save the note.
- Close the pop-up screen to return to the Manage Schedule page.
When you are finished, select Publish button on the Manage Schedule page to publish all schedules for the selected day/week for your employees to view.
You can also select the Unpublish All option to unpublish your store’s daily or weekly schedule in case you want to make any edits to and hide it from your employees.
Method 2
This method shows you how to create a new shift directly from the Schedule table/grid.

Locate the employee in the Schedule grid and hover over the date cell where you want to add a new shift. The Add Shift (+) icon appears on hover.
- Click on Add Shift icon to open the Assign Shift form.
The Assign Shift window is displayed.
- Enter the details for Employee, Position, Date, Start and End Times, Breaks, and Override permissions.
- Enter the remaining details mentioned in Method 1 section of this article.
- Save all your changes after completing.
